It is located between Florence and Siena in the area known as the Chianti Classico belt; Chianti Classico being the prized Italian wines renowned and appreciated all over the world. Because of its prime position, Il Paretaio is an ideal base for touring the best of Tucany; aside from Florence and Siena visit such famous cities as San Gimignano, Pisa, Lucca, Pienza and Cortona.

IL Paretaio is owned and painstakingly run by Gianni and Cristina De Marchi, who have dedicated their lives to the equestrian arts. They ride and teach dressage with the highest professional standards as a result of spending years training with the great Portuguese Masters and other international classical trainers. Gianni and Cristina take great pride in their horses and a real and genuine interest in teaching their riding guests. They offer everything from basic riding lessons to dressage training, and day outings through the gorgeous surrounding countryside. Thirty well trained horses of various breeds are available for both lessons and trails; amongst them Lusitanos and Arabians. The lessons are most often semiprivate or private with the commitment to provide a maximum level of instruction. Classes are offered from ages four and older, taught in English, French and of course Italian. With more than twenty - three years of experience teaching and more than forty years riding, it is no wonder why the Paretaio is recognized as one of the top riding schools in Italy.
The Country House
The 18th century Country House at Il Paretaio was meticulously renovated, but still retains the original terracotta floors, arched ceilings and wooden beams. Its eight guestrooms and two apartments all with private bathrooms are romantically decorated yet ideal for family holidays. Dinner is not to be missed; outstanding and abundant Tuscan four course meals prepared by two local ladies are served in a beautiful dining room complimented by superb Chianti wine. In homage to the traditional Tuscan kitchen, all the guest sit together at the same long table; an atmosphere of true Italian warmth exudes. Among the specialties served is lasagna, tagliatelle con funghi porcini and ragù, but do save room for the pièce de résistance “torta della nonna” and tiramisu.
