WHAT SETS US APART

While some travel guidebook correspondents never do more than ask a few questions at the front desk—and others may actually never go to hotel but just call or go by others’ reviews—we take our responsibility to bring you the best, most up-to-date information about Italy’s Luxury Family properties very seriously. We do not just stay overnight. Instead, we immerse ourselves as much as possible in the total experience—we chat with owners, participate in cooking classes, embark on tours and trips, eat at the restaurants, and socialize at the bars. While this is no doubt time-consuming, it is also thoroughly enjoyable. That enjoyment, and the knowledge it brings, is one of our most distinguishing features.

Although we primarily cover luxury properties, every once in a while on our travels we run into a hotel or bed and breakfast that, while not luxurious by traditional standards, offers something special in terms of service, amenities, ambiance, or character that we feel our luxury travelers will appreciate. We have marked these properties in the book with a WC, for “worth considering.”

In addition, there are a handful of properties included in our reviews that, because of printing deadlines, we have not yet had a chance to inspect. However, we have included them because of their impeccable reputation for luxury service and amenities and because we have met with the hotel owners, managers, or representatives at international luxury travel markets, where we interviewed them for a possible inclusion in our collection. These properties we have marked with an FIP, to signify, “final inspection pending.”
